Henry Gannett

Henry Gannett (August 24, 1846 – November 5, 1914) was an American geographer who was described as the "father of mapmaking in America." He was the chief geographer for the United States Geological Survey essentially from its founding until 1902.

He was also a founding member and president of the National Geographic Society.
