General Sir John Grenfell Maxwell, was a British Army officer and colonial governor. He served in the Mahdist War in the Sudan, the Second Boer War, and in the First World War.
As Commander-in-Chief, Ireland, he was one of the commanders in the repression of the 1916 Easter Rising, including overseeing the courts-martial after the rebellion.
Maxwell retired in 1922.
