Louise Hay

Louise Hay (June 14, 1935 – October 28, 1989) was a French-born American mathematician.Her work focused on recursively enumerable sets and computational complexity theory, which was influential with both Soviet and US mathematicians in the 1970s.

When she was appointed head of the mathematics department at the University of Illinois at Chicago, she was the only woman to head a math department at a major research university in her era.
