Xi Xi

Xi Xi/Hsi Hsi (Chinese: ??; pinyin: Xi Xi, born October 7, 1937 in Shanghai) was the pseudonym of the Chinese author and poet Zhang Yan (Chinese: ??; pinyin: Zhang Yàn).

She was born in China and moved to Hong Kong at the age of twelve.She was formerly a teacher and is now a Hong Kong-based writer.

Her works are also popular in Taiwan and mainland China.She has become a rather well known figure to many secondary school students in Hong Kong.

This is due in particular to one of her essays, "Shops" (??), which was adopted as reading material for the Chinese Language paper in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) by the Hong Kong Examinations Authority of the time.

In 2019, Xi Xi was the recipient of the Newman Prize for Chinese Literature.
